Zero Waste Shopping in Cornwall – Beginner’s Guide
How it Works
1. Weigh
To begin with, you’ll weigh each empty container, whether it’s a jar or a drawstring bag. Our free paper bags are the only containers you don’t need to weigh first.
The scales will show you what to do on the screen, (or one of us to help you!). A barcode sticker will print out, and you’ll place this on the bottom of your empty container. The barcode subtracts the weight of your container when you come to weigh it again once it’s been filled.
2. Fill
This is the fun bit – now you’re ready to refill! For optimum hygiene, our dispensers are designed to release food without the need to touch it. All you need to do is pull the lever down. You’ll be able to control the amount you want easily; there’s no minimum so you can take small amounts if you’re following a recipe, for example. And don’t worry about spillages we will clean it up for you
3. Weigh
Next, you’ll go back to the scales to weigh your filled containers. The screen will ask you to scan the barcode first to deduct the weight of your container.
4. Label
A new label will print out with the product and price details. Our labels are sticky enough to stay on jars, yet easy to remove when you get home.
5. Pay
Take your labelled containers to the till to make payment. And that’s it, you’ve stocked up on food, and you’ve saved more plastic from reaching our oceans!
While we operate a self-service store, we are always happy to help you find and weigh your goods. And if there’s something else you’d love to see at The Refillery let us know!
